I have Breast Cancer: Will I Qualify for Life Insurance? Many women today are affected by Breast Cancer and may think they have no chance at obtaining life insurance coverage. Learn about your options today.

I have Breast Cancer: Will I Qualify for Life Insurance? Breast Cancer is the number 1 most common cancer of women in the United States, and the second largest killer next to Lung Cancer. Breast Cancer occurs when breast cells grow at an abnormal rate. Changes in the genes responsible for regulating the growth of cells can cause cancer (Source: www.breastcancer.org).

Breast Cancer can be discovered when a woman finds a lump or hard mass in her breast, but most cases are diagnosed through a mammogram exam. The lump, or “tumor,” is measured by size and other factors, and a Stage is determined.

The stage/grade of breast cancer, tumor size(s), number of nodes and other factors play a role in the determination of whether or not you qualify for life insurance coverage. Underwriters will evaluate your medical records for specific details on your Breast Cancer. These records, along with a medical exam, blood and urine sample (in most cases), will help an underwriter gauge the “whole picture” of your cancer situation, before making an offer for life insurance coverage.

If you have Breast Cancer, you may qualify for life insurance coverage. Depending on the severity of your cancer, you may or may not qualify for a Standard health rating. Some carriers may even offer you coverage with a table rating (higher premium than a Standard health premium rating). Other cases, if more severe, could be declined.
